Inspired by a line from Sonia Sanchez's Personal Letter No. 2, if i wr yng (i wd stretch u wth my wld wrds). (pronounced: if I were young, I would stretch you with my wild words) toys with silence, subtly, and chaos. Teetering back and forth between the understated and the dramatic, if i wr yng is an exploration of loneliness, inconsolable longing, and uncontainable desire. This piece was commissioned by Jack Thorpe and premiered in 2023 at the Biennial North American Saxophone Alliance Conference.
