Thresh and Hold (2022)

Short Film

Duration: 8’

Thresh and Hold is the short film companion project to Marlanda Dekine’s book of poetry by the same name. Broken into four parts– Origin, Forgetting, Remembering, and Embodying, the work explores concepts of land and ancestry in the American South. The score for this video features field recordings from Dekine’s family land and a local church in rural South Carolina, recordings of W.E.B. Du Bois, and recordings of Dekine improvising poetry. These field and archival recordings are placed in conversation with meditative and driving synths and Afro-latin drums.
